Unveiling the Corrosion-Resistant Secrets of Phosphoric Acid

Phosphoric Acid 85, a weak acid, finds diverse applications beyond the chemical sector. Widely used in sugar and metal refineries, it can decompose minerals, prevent corrosion, and inhibit chloride contamination, safeguarding machinery and groundwater.

Amongst the mineral acids, phosphoric acid 85 is the main compound that is a weak acid and can break many chemical bonds. The application of this acid in the chemical sector is broad, and it is gradually used in many areas apart from the chemical sector.

Phosphoric acid is widely used in the refinery sector, especially in sugar refineries. Apart from that, this chemical is also used to purify water from contaminated sources and is commonly used in metal refineries. Hence, the application of this acid is enormous, and thus you can get the most benefits from this acid.

Interestingly, in the condensed format of H3PO4, you can use it to melt down or decompose more than 70 natural minerals. Silicates, sulfides, and carbonates are the common natural minerals for this decomposition. Therefore, this chemical compound is used in almost every production unit.

Apart from decomposition, this acid can also provide a coating to metals. This process of coating you can refer to as phosphating. This coating ensures more brightness, hardness, and the great looks of the metals. For this reason, you can find this acid is the most common element in the metallurgical industry.

Besides this, this acid is used for other purposes also. Some of the primary objectives are detailed here.

Impacts on minerals

In hydrodynamic conditions, the machines and other equipment in the production system can severely break down due to chemical reactions. This type of phenomenon is known as corrosion. Many metallic substances such as pumps, agitators, and others can get impacted through this corrosion process.

However, the use of H3PO4 can save your machines from these breakdowns. All you have to do is pour the liquid of H3PO4 into the devices where you spotted the block. This chemical effectively cleans the block and efficiently removes the machine from breakdown.

1. An extensive production system uses this chemical for emergency purposes to prevent frequent machine breaks down.

2. With a reaction, this chemical creates protective layers over the metal, preventing further machine breakdowns.

3. You can find this chemical in liquid form, as in 85%. Hence, you can ensure that the liquid can pass through the small spaces of your machines and equipment.

Prevent chloride contamination

This chemical handles and prevents chloride-ion. In agriculture, fertilisers are used, which are based on potash. But, storing these fertilisers in bulk can increase the chances of chloride-ion. This process is dangerous as it can contaminate the groundwater.

To prevent this, this chemical is widely used, which stops the process of chloride-ion. This chemical reacted with the chloride and potash and created other safe compounds for groundwater.

1. This chemical breaks the bond between chlorine and potash and produces chlorides and other substances.

2. This chemical also reacts with the chloride-ion process and leaves oxygen and water after the reaction.

Therefore, this chemical prevents groundwater depletion and helps to maintain the components of fertilisers. Thus, this chemical indirectly ensures plants' growth and water sources' safety.

But what to do when you can find your direct contact with this acid?

For eyes: you should always use protective glasses when dealing with this acid. However, if it gets contacted with your eyes, then you should gently wash your eyes with warm water. Warm water can remove the acid particles from your eyes.

For skin: if the protective layers cannot prevent this acid from contacting your skin, then you should remove the protective clothes. You should keep flashing warm water on your skin. This acid can be poisonous. Thus, you need to call the doctor immediately.

Finally, you should take care when you use this acid on an extensive production system.
