Pine oil is an essential oil obtained by the steam distillation of stumps, needles, twigs, and cones from a variety of species of pine, particularly Pinus sylvestris.
Composition:
The compositions of all the pine oil are similar, mainly Alpha-Terpineol, plus Beta-Terpineol, Ghamma-Terpineol, and other Terpene alcohols, etc.
Commercial grades generally are divided by the Percentage of Terpene Alcohol content in the material, from 50% to 85%. Higher Alpha-Terpene alcohol usually means a more pleasant, pure, typical lilac odor. Pine oil with high Alpha-Terpene alcohol content is also called Terpineol.
Pricing Factor: The price of Pine Oil is derived based on the percentage of Alpha-Terpene Alcohol in the material & performance/quality also depends on the % Alpha Alcohol in the material.
Example: Pine Oil 85% can be subdivided into various categories based on the percentage of Alpha Terpene Alcohol in the material and therefore the Purity, Odor & Price will be different.
- The lesser the percentage of Alpha Terpene Alcohol in the material, the lesser will be Purity, Odor, Price & disinfectant performance.
- Higher the percentage of Alpha Terpene Alcohol in material, Higher will Purity, Odor, Price & disinfectant performance.
The purity of the material has majored through typical GC Analysis which highlights different peaks of each component Alpha-Terpineol, plus Beta-Terpineol, Ghamma-Terpineol, and other Terpene alcohols, etc.
